Biographical sketch [microform] (Typescript).

Born in Edingurgshire, Scotland, son of Henry McEwan and Jane Thompson. Early life in Scotland as a member of the LDS Church; immigration to Utah, 1860, during which time he was the private secretary of J.D. Ross, president of the group; settlement in Provo, Utah, 1861; member of the "Black Hawk" expedition to Sevier County, 1866; community responsibilities as a printer of the first Salt Lake Herald, printer of the Inquirer (the first newspaper south of Salt Lake City), member of the City Council of Provo, member of the Board of Education in Provo, and a commissioner of Utah County; church responsibilities in Scotland. (Part of the Timp View Camp Collection, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.).
